EU AI Act for SMEs: the three obligations that actually apply
Most of the European AI rules are aimed at high-risk systems: medical, hiring, credit, infrastructure. An average service business touches three things, not thirty.
This is not legal advice. It is the short list we walk through with clients before a lawyer looks at it.
Know where you use it
Write down every place a model touches customer data, who owns it and what happens when it is wrong. One page is enough, and most companies do not have it.
Say when it is a machine
If a customer talks to something automated, they should be able to tell. That is cheap to do and expensive to retrofit after a complaint.
Keep a person in the decision
Pricing, complaints and anything with legal consequence stay with a person. The model may prepare, it may not decide.
See where the gains are.
